Signia has introduced a special new button within its app that enhances hearing aid wearer’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic by making people who wear face masks easier to understand.
Face masks cover one’s mouth, removing important visual cues that people with hearing loss rely on, such as lip reading. They also muffle speech, which even affects people with normal hearing, reducing their hearing ability by around 30%.
When switched on, the new Mask Mode optimizes the hearing aids to capture the speech clearer and reduces the background noise. This makes the muffled speech much easier to understand. Once the hearing aid wearer is done talking to someone with a mask on, they can simply turn off the mask mode with a tap of a button.
