Are over-the-counter hearing aids right for you?
Know before you buy.
Over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids are medical devices registered through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are intended to help those who believe they have perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss. OTC hearing aids are NOT for the treatment of severe or profound hearing loss.
Adults 18 years of age or older can purchase OTC hearing aids without the need for a prescription or the involvement of a licensed hearing healthcare professional. Users must be comfortable with self-fitting OTC hearing aids and controlling them using a smartphone.
